Series 1 Flashbacks
The John Rowe Show first launched in 2005 playing a series of monthly shows in iconic venues like The Vanguard and @Newtown. John put together a band consisting of Sydney's finest musicians, dragged his lounge room furniture up on stage, and collected a bunch of wacky content to keep his audiences entertained in between songs. He also somehow managed to arrange an impressive list of celebrity guests to pop in for some fun.. We asked John how he did it.... "Bribery! Never underestimate the power of the donut!".
Series 2 Flashbacks
After a much needed haircut, John relaunched the show in 2007 for a residency at the Sound Lounge in Sydney's Seymour Theatre Centre. New songs, new silliness, more donuts, and a series of fresh celebrity guests. Just how did he keep the guests coming? "Persistence... otherwise known as stalking... works a charm!"
Look at me!
The show generated quite a bit of media attention in the days just before social media had really begun its world domination. There were TV appearances, radio interviews and print editorials, along with old-skool advertising in entertainment guides, cafe posters, postcards and flyers. There were even press photographers rocking up to gigs to snap candid shots of glamorous celebs scoffing down iced donuts.
